Window Managers

A window manager is a program that provides the interface for X Windows. The default is kde, which is similar to Windows 95. However, on SUCS, we give you a choice of Window Managers:

If you want to use either fvwm or twm, then you have to edit your settings. The easiest way to start is to download predefined settings files and tailor them to your needs. Due to the naming restrictions in MS Windows, these files will be downloaded with incorrect names. Once they are in your home directory on SUCS, you will have to rename them. Note that you must use the exact capitalisation shown and include the dot.

fvwm

  1. Download fvwm.txt and rename it to .xsession
  2. Download xdefault.txt and rename it to .Xdefaults
  3. Download fvwmrc.txt and rename it to .fvwmrc
twm
  1. Download twm.txt and rename it to .xsession
  2. Download xdefault.txt and rename it to .Xdefaults
